Aphelandra squarrosa - zebra plant has gotta be in my top favourite plants. I love the foliage, I've always had an affinity for anything zebra striped. My Aphelandra is yet to flower for me, however my goal is to make this happen so I'll keep you posted on my progress. These zebra plants can get yellow cone shaped flowers in summer. Aphelandra squarossa is beautiful indoor plant that likes a bright & humid position. Learn more about the zebra plant below.

ABOUT

Deep, dark green foliage accented by ivory zebra like veined stripes. Flowers are yellow cone shaped heads 7-10cms, from mid - late summer. Native to Brazil. 

LIGHT/SUN

Bright, indirect light / Full shade

WATER

Do not let this plant dry out, keep the soil moist but not saturated, use the finger test to determine how moist the soil is. Mist spray foliage in warmer months. 

SIZE

Height: 23-60 cm​​​​s

Spread: 30-38 cms

SOIL

High quality premium potting mix or rich loam based soil.

FERTILISER

Liquid or slow release fertiliser is recommended to be applied during in the warmer months, choose one suitable for your houseplants and always follow the instructions on the pack for measurements and frequency. This plant doesn’t require fertiliser in the cold of winter. 

CARE TIPS 

Follow the above!  When choosing a pot - pick one with a drainage hole, and use a saucer to catch escaping water. Empty the saucer after watering.  May need repotting every 12 months in the spring when the roots fill the pot.
