Chamaedorea Cataractarum Plant Profile

Chamaedorea cataractarum or altroviren is a stunning indoor palm. The very soft and feathery pinnate leaves of this palm hang gently off long thin stems & exude elegance. Grown for its beautiful deep, dark green foliage this palm is will not only add style to your home, the pinnate leaves simply soften a space.

Cascade palm 


Chamaedorea cataractarum or altroviren has very soft deep, dark green pinnate leaves hang gently off long thin clustering stems. Fronds are darker in colour in the shade. Cascade Palms are fantastic for indoors or in pots for a patio/deck. Native to southern Mexico and Central America. 


Bright indirect light/ Part or full shade.


Water when just dry. Water thoroughly when watering and allow to completely drain (do not sit in water for extended periods). Requires good drainage. 


Height: 1-2m 

Spread: 1-2m


High quality premium potting mix or very well draining soil.


Liquid or slow release fertiliser is recommended to be applied during in the warmer months, choose one suitable for your houseplants and always follow the instructions on the pack for measurements and frequency. This plant doesn’t require fertiliser in the cold of winter. 


Follow the above!  When choosing a pot - pick one with a drainage hole, and use a saucer to catch escaping water. Empty the saucer after watering.  This plant will need repotting only when the roots fill the pot, then repot in Spring
